Upfront 2

In the article, No More Mister Nice Guy in Upfront Magazine it talks about micky mouse. I tells about how he makes so much money for disney, like 5 billion dollars per year. Why change something if its making that much money. There are lots of tech savy kidy who change his personality, like how he talks and how he looks. Also kids text in everyday and tellt ehm to change. Would this be something that you would do, well the people at disney think it is a good idea. They are going to take micky's origional form and toteally ghange it around. People will still be able to recognize him but it will be quite a change. They say that he will be more festive and to show the new micky to the world they are making a game called Epic Micky for the Nintendo Wii. Becasue micky is recognized around teh world they think that the change won't even be a problem, they think that it will make their income increase by over 50,000 dollars.

The Ugly Duckling

The Ugly Duckling
Hans Christian Anderson

Imagine yourself judged from birth, ugly. This is what happened to the ugly duckling in the famous short story, “The Ugly Duckling”. The little duck was judged and disliked by the other fellow ducklings but the story has a surprising end. The author Hans Christian Anderson helps to make this story one of a kind with his good vocabulary, plot line and symbolism, also the ending will be something to remember. Hans was a good man who writing career made him very famous. He was a man of Denmark who was well known for his good deeds around his town. His writing career took off in the early to mid eighteen hundreds around 1829 to be exact where he had the book, “A Travel Diary of a Walking Trip.” In his more famous story the “Ugly Duckling” he uses the swan to represent purity and hope and peace for everyone, it is also symbolic to his life and what he went through as a kid. After his writing career he died in 1875 of old age. This story is written in the romantic mode of literature. The story starts in a mild conflict of the duckling being born ugly, this is not too big of a deal but the other ducklings make him feel bad. Next the mild conflict continues by the ugly duckling being picked on and made fun of. The story ends in resolution, the duckling becomes a beautiful swan, more beautiful than all the other ducks and everyone who picked on him. Because Hans used suck a good mode line to express the story all of the other just happen to fall into place like the symbolism and the plot which is based off the mode. In this story bullying is a big concept for this little duckling. He is being accused of being ugly and not belonging as a duck, they tell him to go away by all the other ugly ducklings so he can maybe find a wife over there. He is disliked by all the ducks and excluded from al the event that happened and would have happened. Although bullying might be fun for the person who is doing it, it can seriously impact a person’s life and in some cases make them commit suicide. Bullying is a powerful thing and if not treated properly it can do some serious damage on a person’s life impacting them forever. In the short story the author Hans Christian Anderson used lots of good symbolism and has a good mode line with lots of good vocabulary which makes this author and story so good. In this story we learned that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. You may have heard this saying a couple of times before but this story really helps to bring it out and helps us readers really understand the meaning.

The Lie

“The Lie”
Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

Not everyone tells the truth. This would be called lying. Everyone lies at some point in their life. But lying too often could end badly. Not only for you but for the people you are trying to protect. The author of the story, “The Lie” is Kurt Vonnegut Jr. The main character, Eli, lies to his parents and, well, let’s just say it doesn’t end good. In this story the author uses good symbolism, has a good theme, and the mode, comedy.
In the story, “The Lie”, the author, Kurt Vonnegut Jr., has quite exceptional symbolism. He uses all the of his God given natural writing talent to describe the scene and make you feel like you are really there with the family and in the story. At the beginning of the book he describes the car driving down the road, and I could almost feel the wind rushing past my head and through my hair. When they are in the school, he describes the room and I could picture myself there with everybody. He describes the campus and the woods surrounding, I feel like everything is just here.
The theme of the story is lying. It is a bad thing and it will always come to haunt you. No matter what you do you won’t be able to escape it and someone will pay the price, it may not be you, but it will happen. Everybody lies at some point, but they can just be little white lies. For example, this is my favorite song, when maybe it is not. Other people may tell big lies that can damage relationships and friendships. The main character Eli’s lie in the story, is that he lies to his parents about getting into a school, and this is a huge lie. The way that the parents find out is not good either; the principal of the school tells them exactly what the letter would have said. The letter that Eli tore up said, “On the basis of his work in primary school and his scores on the entrance examinations, I must tell you that your son and my good friend Eli cannot possibly do the work required of boys at Whitehill, and to admit Eli to Whitehill, to expect him to do Whitehill work, would be both unrealistic and cruel.” This is harsh, and a good example of why lying is bad.
The mode of the story is comedy. It is written in the comedic mode of literature because of all the events that happened throughout the short story. The story begins normal, a car driving down a road. Then the conflict rises; there is an entrance test that he failed and they are going to the school because they think Eli got in. Next, the parents find out and he gets in a lot of trouble for lying to them. The resolution is that they change their mind about the school and leave. It ends normal, a car going down the road. This story’s sequences follow the mode line of comedy.
Lying is everywhere and everyone lies at some point in their life, but when the lie gets too severe, bad things happen and some traditions have to be broken. Lying is just another way to get around things, but if you are brave enough, you should just come out and say the truth. People will thank you for it in the long run
